What will your impact be?

Asymmetrik is dedicated to the notion of “possibility.” Each of us has a unique contribution to make to the world given the right opportunity. Here, you’ll have the power to play to your strengths. To build amazing things with others who share your passion. To contribute to a culture that is greater than the sum of its parts.  And to hone your tradecraft far beyond what you thought possible by working day in and day out with the best.

We believe that hiring team members with different backgrounds, interests, and talents encourages diversity in ideas. That’s the secret to sparking true innovation. And that’s why Asymmetrik is proud to be an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer.

Asymmetrik is based in the Baltimore-Washington area and serves clients in government, healthcare, and technology. For many of our government customer-related positions, a TS/SCI clearance with polygraph is highly desirable. Be sure to also check out our benefits package.

Why is our Mascot a Black Sheep?

Asymmetrik’s mascot embodies the kinds of traits we value: a fierce desire to learn, a great sense of humor, and the ability to see things differently. We aren’t afraid to challenge assumptions or go against the prevailing opinion if that’s what it takes to help our customers. In other words, we aren’t afraid to stand out from the herd.

We’re looking for candidates at all levels of experience and ability. Whether you would consider yourself an Apprentice, Journeyperson, or Master in your field, we’ve got something for you.

sheep-apprenticeSo, you are an apprentice! You’re learning your way in the world of crafting bits into applications and complex systems, but you still feel most comfortable copying/pasting or lurking StackOverflow and extending and modifying existing solutions as needed. You will learn much from the mentorship of a Journeyperson and dream of someday becoming a Master.

As an apprentice, your responsibilities are:

  • Learn (a lot) from your allies and senior technical staff
  • Adopt new technologies and hone your ability to solve new problems
  • Collaborate with your team to solve technical challenges efficiently and effectively
  • Participate in architecture and software development activities

To start your apprenticeship, you will need:

  • US citizenship required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or other relevant fields
  • 0-3 years of relevant technical experience

sheep-journeyWell done! You have completed an apprenticeship. You’ve long since moved on from extending the work of others and are now comfortable building impressive things from nothing more than ideas, electrons, and the caffeinated beverage of your choice. You feel most comfortable exploring unknown realms with the support of a strong group of allies but are fully capable of handling yourself when necessary. You are on your way to becoming a master. It is not a question of if, but when.

During your journeyperson years, your responsibilities are:

  • Analyze and adapt new technologies to difficult technical challenges
  • Deliver high-quality work with minimal supervision
  • Contribute significantly to technical design and architecture discussions
  • Lead and mentor apprentices

To continue on your journey, you will need:

  • US citizenship required
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or other relevant field
  • 3-7 years of relevant technical experience

sheep-masterAh… the Master. Your knowledge and skill are well known across the realm. Almost as well as your initiative, compassion, and confidence. You’ve transcended any single technology and are now a master of many. You seek thrills forking projects in GitHub and answering questions on StackOverflow. You will find a home among friends here in the Asymmetrik guild.

As a master, your responsibilities are:

  • Work independently on significant aspects of a system or architecture
  • Track technology trends and identify opportunities for investment and innovation
  • Lead discussions on requirements, design, and development in an agile environment
  • Master the art of balancing the strategic and tactical priorities of your project

To be a master you need:

  • US citizenship required
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or other relevant field
  • 7+ years of relevant technical experience
